Robert Travis Ayers '96

Robert Travis Ayers, class of 1996, died tragically in a one-car crash on I-40 near Flagstaff, Arizona on Nov. 16, 2015. Travis was 38-years old. He was returning from a visit with his sister and her husband in California.

Travis was born on Oct. 28, 1977 in OKC to Carol Ann Dennis and William Richard Ayers. As a United Methodist minister's family, they lived in Weatherford, Walters, Holdenville, Atlanta, Tulsa, and OKC. Travis graduated from Heritage Hall HS in 1996. He attended Okla. City Univ. and graduated from Tulane Univ., with majors in Philosophy and Spanish. Travis also obtained certifications in the Culinary Arts and Pastries.
 
Travis loved New Orleans culture where he was a sous chef with the Brennan Restaurant group. He was listed in multiple local culinary and cooking magazines and featured on the local news. Travis learned to make African hand drums, played the drums with various musicians, and in drum lines as well as several New Orleans establishments prior to Hurricane Katrina. He was once The Featured Artist at "The House of Blues" in N.O. and marched with various groups in the Mardi Gras parades. He had a passion for traveling the world, cooking, music, hunting, and poetry. The love of his life was his 10-year old son, Rowan Blue Ayers, whom he aptly referred to as "Mini Me."
Travis is survived by his son, Blue; mother Carol Ann Dennis of Scottsdale, Arizona; , father Rev. Richard and Step-mother Dana Ayers of Stillwater; his grandmothers: Mrs. R.T. (Joy) Ayers of OKC and Mrs. Peggy Harp of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; sisters Allyson and brother-in-law Jeff Greiner of Laguna Nigel, CA and Delanie Ayers of Stillwater.
 
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 4 at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 W. Hefner, OKC at 3:00 p.m. reception following. In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be sent to the Blue Ayers 529 College Savings Acct. c/o Steve Norman, Edward Jones, 424 S. Lewis, Stillwater, OK 74074.
